Sawadee kap from Bangkok!

Another year, another hideously long flight, this time with a connection in Delhi, which is a pretty swish airport that I would have liked to have explored a bit more had we not fallen asleep on the floor of departures for the entire 3 hours – that was a pretty hectic sprint to the flight gate when we woke up! Travelling with Brad and Joe is fun; they’re not afraid to ask the questions “what spirits do you have?” and “have you got any leftover meals?” on the plane – result! After a pretty grim queue for immigration at suvarnabhumi airport, Bangkok, we were cheered up by our taxi driver, who had completed some kind of English course, and had primarily retained (most importantly) the phrase “How now, brown cow?”! He told us that Mr Bean was his favourite comedian, and we made firm friends! We arrived at the hostel, dealt out bunks, and headed straight onto Khaosan Rd for dinner and ‘drinks’…

We woke up to an unbearably hot Monday morning in Bangkok – so unbearable that we were out of bed by half 9. Somehow we managed to pull ourselves together enough to find a tuk tuk that would take us to the Vietnamese Embassy, which was a fun ride that left Joe a little worse for wear – we’ll let you use your imaginations on that one…! With visas in process by half 11, the only real thing we had to achieve during our 5 day stay in Bangkok, we found ourselves with not a lot to do except complain about the heat! After a short and sticky nap we decided to ‘get a grip’ and headed out for some lunch and to barter with the locals over baggy fisherman trousers (Brad and Joe were jealous of my fancy pants and had to have a pair – pictures to follow..)

The turning point of the day was the recollection of the hotel on Khaosan with the rooftop pool that Sophia and I snuck into last year! We thought we’d risk it and, making ourselves look like we could afford that kind of establishment, we sauntered into the lobby and up to the sun terrace – Wohoo! We spent the last few hours of sun up there, before the heavens opened and a perfect afternoon became ‘The Day After Tomorrow’. Back in the hostel now to write this post, hope you’ve had a giggle!  😆

  1. Hi Sweetie,
Sounds like your getting to be an ‘old hand’ at this travelling lark. Feeling a little bit worried as no mention of Brian so far? How is the small knitted one coping with the humidity?
Big cool hugs and looking forward to reading more illuminating tweets, (did you see what I did there?) and humorous anecdotes.
