Sa-wadi-ka! We’re back in Bangkok for a second look at the city after a slightly uninspiring end to our trip to Laos where the capital city, Vientiane, is a bit of a depressing place with sadly not much to offer…
Having been told that Bangkok’s shopping centres are amazing we were sceptical but decided to have a look anyway and were amazed by the sheer size and variety of the place. Seven vast floors are full of trendy young Thai’s buying food and items well out of our budget – not the Thailand we’re used to! After a lunch of spinach, bacon and cheese, spicy beef and carbonara (the waiter laughed at our interesting choices) we perused the mini country were we in and toyed with the idea of going to the aquarium…
Tomorrow we will be visiting the Ayutthaya historical park where the ruins of the former capital city of 500 years lie. We may also visit Lopburi (a city overrun by monkeys who want to steal your lunch and maybe give you rabies?!?) – we’re hoping for a ‘jungle book’ like atmosphere…
We are also hoping to watch the Olympic opening ceremony tonight but as it is on here from 2am – 5am we will be napping before watching what will (hopefully) be something Britain can be proud of – and with 7 years of preparation what could possibly go wrong?
In case you missed it, the opening ceremony was fantastic, and don’t let anyone tell you differently! Opened fairly quietly, and built up with a romp through our history. The only long bit was the arrival of all the athletes into the arena, which took 2 hours, but they are entitled to their time in the sun! Also quirky and fun. Glad you are having an interesting time, with lots of different experiences, keep safe, Granny Mary and Grandad.
Hi There,
Can’t believe you’ve been gone a month now – but looking at all the wonderful photos makes it more believable. Just one more night in Bangkok and then you’re off again. Have a safe journey and enjoy the experience of even more amazing sights, smells and sculptures! The Olympic buzz is huge here and by the time it’s all over it will be almost time for you to come home 🙂
Have fun girlies and well done for looking after each other.
Lots of love, Mum xxxx
